Premier Equine Sweet Iron Pelham Long Curb with Aurion Lozenge

Suitable for horses that:

• Remain strong in a short shank Pelham

• Are long in the neck and need the nose bringing in

• Are too strong for a snaffle out hunting or in the ring

• Need a curb action that can be applied quietly

How it works

Mouthpiece. 14mm, double jointed, with curved cannons angled forward to follow the shape of the tongue. The lozenge lies flat on the tongue rather than standing upright between tongue and palate, so tongue pressure is spread across the width of the tongue. There is no nutcracker action and nothing reaches the palate.

Cheek piece. The Pelham has attachments for two reins, one at the mouthpiece and one at the end of the shank. Ridden on the top rein it acts as a fixed cheek snaffle. When the bottom rein is taken the shank rotates back, the curb chain comes into the curb groove, poll pressure is applied through the bridle and the mouthpiece rolls back onto the tongue and bars. Poll, tongue and curb pressure work together to ask the horse to shorten and soften rather than simply stop. This is the longer of our two shanks, so it engages later and exerts more leverage. The lip strap keeps the curb chain lying flat.
