The Wilkie (also known as the Beval or Bevel) utilizes pressure on the poll and raises the bit in the horse’s mouth to achieve additional control without resorting to a stronger mouthpiece.

This is similar to the action of a ring bit but to a milder degree which is why it has found favour for use on ponies.

The cheekpiece is available in 2 sizes, standard and a slightly smaller model for a pony. Bomber highly recommends using a bit strap on a loose ring, as it stabilizes and minimizes the mouthpiece sliding through the mouth. Consider bit rubbers as a precaution.

The port creates relief for the tongue while the barrel joint relieves pressure on the bars, while still allowing for individual lateral aids.

The central barrel allows for a separation of reins aids, enabling a fine tuning of communication. The limited movement of the barrel allows the port to adjust to fit a wide range of mouth configurations. The adjustable port allows the horse to manoeuvre pressures between its tongue & bars.
