Bombers Wilkie Waterford - Brand new! The wilkie cheekpiece is also called a Beval or Bevel
The Bomber Wilkie utilizes pressure on the poll and raises the bit in the horse’s mouth to achieve additional control without resorting to a stronger mouthpiece.
This is similar to the action of a ring bit but to a milder degree which is why it has found favour for use on ponies.
The Waterford bit has many smooth flexible bobbles which spread the pressure making it a light mouthpiece. The greater flexibility discourages a horse from leaning on it, it also promotes mouthing and salivation.
The Waterford is usually worn ¼” – ½” or 5mm – 10mm longer than your traditional mouthpiece in order to curve around the tongue and maximize the effect.
Bombers Wilkie Waterford – Action & Feel
The Bombers Wilkie Waterford combines a mobile Waterford mouthpiece with a Wilkie (Beval) cheek to offer increased control while maintaining a soft, responsive feel.
The Waterford mouthpiece is made up of multiple rounded links that move independently. This prevents the horse from leaning or fixing against the bit, encouraging a lighter contact and better self-carriage. Because the mouthpiece remains flexible, pressure is spread evenly across the tongue and lips rather than concentrated in one area.
The Wilkie cheekpiece applies mild poll pressure when the reins are engaged, helping to lift the forehand and improve balance. This creates clearer steering and faster responses without strong leverage or harsh action.
When ridden on the contact, the bit:
- Discourages leaning and pulling
- Encourages softness and flexion
- Improves balance and steering through gentle poll engagement
Overall, the Bombers Wilkie Waterford provides effective control with comfort, making it a popular choice for horses that get strong, lean on the hand, or need extra responsiveness.
Ideal for:
- Horses that lean or set against the bit
- Riders wanting more control without severity
- Jumping, show jumping, cross-country, and fast work
Most orders only take about 10 days if a bit isn't in stock however, if the APAC depot is out of stock and it needs to be ordered from the factory it could take 3 to 4 weeks - see exact dates HERE.
