The Fullmer  (Full cheek) Loose Rings make the bit less fixed in the mouth which encourages acceptance of the bit, and removes poll pressure

Flexible Mullen: An internal stainless steel chain covered with a bespoke non-toxic, UV resistant PVC tube offering an exceptionally soft and evenly distributed pressure over tongue and bars.  Especially good for the horse that objects to metal. 

The idea behind this mouthpiece design, a soft tube which curves around the tongue applying spread tongue and bar pressure has since been further finessed with the innovation of the moulded mullen.
