The Taylor Chain bit creates an action between a Waterford and a Snaffle. The Short length of double link curb chain allows it to take the shape of the tongue and as a result distributes the pressure across the tongue like a Waterford. The ends of the mouth piece act more like a snaffle exerting pressure on the bars.
The Tom Thumb is similar to the Ring bits or Dutch Gags and introduces poll pressure as well creating leverage on the mouthpiece. The main difference however is that instead of the additional rings at the bottom it has an extended shank with a ring on the end, this shank is bent and set to run at 45°. The effect this has is to ease up the poll pressure and leverage on the mouthpiece.
Bomber bits are made from blue sweet iron, because it:
- oxidises easily
- encourages salivation
- helps bit acceptance
- is warm and sweet
Please note that the sweet iron fades to brown with use or any oxidation. This is normal.
